Director Roland Emmerich
It’s as if the 1970s had never happened. Emmerich serves up an unabashed flag waver for the greatest naval battle of World War Two which seems more suited to a double bill with Dambusters. Yet it’s a full on action film which is based on true stories (which seem unbelievable but are true)and delivered in the most convincing CGI flight simulations to date. The Dive bomber attacks in particular give you a flavour of the bravery/madness of the young men who would attack ships with all hell being fired at them.
Verdict: Traditional war movie, and none the worse for being so.
