This lightweight adventure movie has unsurprisingly become the most successful Amazon film to date as its the perfect escape from the worries of the world around us. Based on a true balloon flight undertaken by James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne), it gives him a composite female companion (Felicity Jones) who has suffered every tragedy that genuinely befell pioneering women balloonists. Redmayne and Jones make a convincing couple (as they did in The Theory of Everything). However, it’s the recreation of flying that lifts the film out of the ordinary and Jones is a convincing action hero.
Verdict: A very positive and uplifting view of mankind. Ideal for 2020.
